Secretary General
Branksome Hall Asia, Class of 2019

I am an incoming senior at Branksome Hall Asia (BHA), and this is my fifth year living in Jeju. GECMUN is the conference that taught me the basics of MUN and watched me grow from a delegate to a secretariat. I started MUN in GECMUN II as a delegate. I then served as a chair of UNESCO in GECMUN III and as the Deputy Secretary General in GECMUN IV. This year, I am truly honored to serve you as the Secretary General for GECMUN V. GECMUN is the conference that always surprises and inspires me. As soon as I walk into any of the committee doors during the conference, I can feel the vibrant, energetic atmosphere of the room. I can see how our delegates are fully dedicated to making ‘changes’ to the world that we are living in. This always motivates me to advocate for peace and human rights. Therefore delegates, I would like to invite all of you to be part of this wonderful journey. Please embrace the challenges that GECMUN offers and don’t be afraid to add your voice to the ‘change’ that we are making.
Please feel free to contact my fellow secretariat members or me if you have any questions.

Deputy Secretary General

Korea International School Jeju, Class of 2019

I am a rising senior in Korea International School Jeju (KISJ). I was born on this beautiful island of Jeju, and this is my eighth year attending this school. I love listening to new stories, traveling, and learning new languages. This is my sixth year participating in MUN, and fifth in GECMUN. I feel attached to this conference as I watched it grow and change over time. I began as a delegate in GECMUN I, then had the honor of chairing crisis committees and designing logos, banners, and other items for the conference. Now, I will be serving you as the Deputy Secretary General for GECMUN V. GECMUN was always that time of the year when it summarized my school life. It spoke to me of how much I liked meeting new people, how much I liked being in high school, how much I liked the opportunities I have. This year, my hope is to extend this love to those who are trying MUN for the first time, or those who are returning but have yet not realized its wonder. I am both very thankful and proud to be part of this high-quality conference full of aspiring people. I also look forward to working with all of the chairs, press, advisors, and my fellow secretariats. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions. I very much look forward to meeting you soon!

Deputy Secretary General
Korea International School Jeju, Class of 2019

Hello! I am a rising senior in Korea International School Jeju. I have been attending KISJ for three years, and I feel blessed to live on this beautiful island. I enjoy playing many sports like Tennis, Golf, and Weightlifting. On the other hand, my favorite hobby is seeking for delicious foods. I love that heavenly taste of a good meal. I kicked off my MUN career during my freshman year. During MUN participation, I had numerous opportunities to take different roles as a delegate, chair, and secretariat. Frankly, I believe I become most excited and obsessed when I become a delegate. However, I wanted to attend GECMUN V as a secretariat since I was hoping to make your experience ecstatic. I want to ascend the emphatic influence of GECMUN as the same way I was influenced. I do not doubt that GECMUN V can be the life-changing experience that will positively affect you. GECMUN is an exceptional conference for me. Since I started GECMUN II as a newby delegate, now I feel somewhat awkward to attend as a secretariat. As I began to devote my MUN career through memorable and extraordinary experiences in GECMUN II, I hope that you will also get a vital lesson or belief that can affirmatively impact your life. All of the challenges you will face in the conference will supplement your background and development in some way. So, please enjoy the upcoming obstacles that will brighten you in the close future. I will always be next to you, so don't hesitate to approach me for any convenience. I am looking forward to seeing you!

Ewan Chang,

Deputy Secretary-General

ADVISOR BIO

Picture
Chris Lyons
North London Collegiate School Jeju Director

I am a teacher of Geography at the North London Collegiate School, currently in my second year on Jeju. I'm a big fan of travel, my love of geography spurring my need to see as much of the world as possible.
Before arriving in Korea, I taught at a senior school in London, where I formed the Model UN Society and ran some small conferences, but it’s great to be able to get involved with an event such as GECMUN, where students really do get an all round Model UN experience. Smaller committee sizes are something we look for when we take students to other Model UN conferences, allowing all students to get involved and get the most from their experience, and I feel that our conference on Jeju does this excellently.
GECMUN V will mark my transition from advisor to director, and I am excited about getting more involved with what I feel will be another positive and rewarding conference.

Korea International School Jeju Director

I teach history at Korea International School Jeju, and have been on the island for the past four years. Previous to South Korea, I taught history and coached MUN at Bahrain and Honduras. I love soccer, history, and MUN.
I have been involved with GECMUN from its inception in 2015, and find it to be one of the most inspiring MUN conferences to be part of. The conference is delegate-centered and is focused on providing attendees with an entertaining and educational experience. The small committee sizes provide ease when it comes to delegates having to contact chairs, and vice-versa. The chairs do not look at the conference as a resume padder but are truly invested in providing delegates with the best experience possible, and I firmly believe our format of having adults selecting the chairs instead of having high school students select their friends is a superior system to many of the MUN conferences in the Korean circuit.
We pride our conference to be constantly breaking new barriers. GECMUN was the first major conference to implement UNA-USA style of debate as well as implement crisis committees. We are an ambitious conference, constantly trying out new committees, and continually expanding in size. I look forward to seeing the conference continue to expand in both quality and quantity.

Rachel Briard
Branksome Hall Asia Director

I have been working at Branksome Hall Asia for the last three years where I now teach middle school English Language and Literature as well as Individuals and Societies at Branksome Hall Asia. Previous to South Korea, I was living in Toronto's shadow in Ontario, Canada.
This is my second year involved with MUN and the GECMUN conference. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching my students embrace MUN as they challenge themselves to take on different roles and leave craving more. I especially like how GECMUN allows for close interactions with the chairs in a committee and encourages students to take ownership of their involvement.
This year, I look forward to taking on more responsibility as I help work to shape the Press Corps for GECMUN V.

Catherine McCosker
North London Collegiate School Jeju Director

I am currently teaching Biology at North London Collegiate School, Jeju. This is my second year in South Korea, but have been teaching in various international schools for 19 years now. As you may have gathered I love travelling, but I also have enjoyed learning more about the culture and history of the seven different countries I have taught in.
I have been fortunate enough to be involved in MUN on 3 continents and thus have been exposed to different styles of conferences such as THIMUN and SEASAC. Since coming to Jeju I have been connected with the GECMUN conference as an advisor and have enjoyed watching the students engaging in high quality passionate debates. I look forward to helping to extend the quality of debate even further as a director in GECMUNV.

Mr. Eric Kwon
Business Coordinator

I have been working at KIS for the last three years as a business staff and it's my 3rd year involved in coordinating logistics for GECMUN with Mr. Harris, KIS MUN director. I also have been a huge fan of debate activities such as MUN since I have gotten to experience MEC (Model European Council) as one of delegates when I was in college. I hope that everyone who will come to Jeju for GECMUN V not only makes a good relationship with new people but gains some more valuable experience here. I look forward to seeing you all in spring.
