ADVISOR BIO
Chris Lyons
North London Collegiate School Jeju Director I am a teacher of Geography at the North London Collegiate School, currently in my second year on Jeju. I'm a big fan of travel, my love of geography spurring my need to see as much of the world as possible.
Before arriving in Korea, I taught at a senior school in London, where I formed the Model UN Society and ran some small conferences, but it’s great to be able to get involved with an event such as GECMUN, where students really do get an all round Model UN experience. Smaller committee sizes are something we look for when we take students to other Model UN conferences, allowing all students to get involved and get the most from their experience, and I feel that our conference on Jeju does this excellently. GECMUN V will mark my transition from advisor to director, and I am excited about getting more involved with what I feel will be another positive and rewarding conference. Korea International School Jeju Director I teach history at Korea International School Jeju, and have been on the island for the past four years. Previous to South Korea, I taught history and coached MUN at Bahrain and Honduras. I love soccer, history, and MUN.
I have been involved with GECMUN from its inception in 2015, and find it to be one of the most inspiring MUN conferences to be part of. The conference is delegate-centered and is focused on providing attendees with an entertaining and educational experience. The small committee sizes provide ease when it comes to delegates having to contact chairs, and vice-versa. The chairs do not look at the conference as a resume padder but are truly invested in providing delegates with the best experience possible, and I firmly believe our format of having adults selecting the chairs instead of having high school students select their friends is a superior system to many of the MUN conferences in the Korean circuit. We pride our conference to be constantly breaking new barriers. GECMUN was the first major conference to implement UNA-USA style of debate as well as implement crisis committees. We are an ambitious conference, constantly trying out new committees, and continually expanding in size. I look forward to seeing the conference continue to expand in both quality and quantity.
