Esteemed Guests, Distinguished Advisors, and Dear Participants,
It is my deepest honor and privilege to welcome you all to the Second Annual Session of the Global Education City Model United Nations (GECMUN), which will take place on February 20th-21st, 2016 at Jeju Island of South Korea. Late in the winter of 2015, we embarked on a new chapter in the Korean story of Model United Nations. With an aspiration to break away from trivial conventional Model UN conferences in Korea, we introduced you to a journey that you’ve never encountered before; the government officials of 1948 Yugoslavia undertook a mission to change the course of post-WWII history, the Pantheon of Gods strategized to decide the destinies of the mortals they chose to control, and not to mention, the stakeholders of the United Nations Security Council along with the World Bank and UNICEF sought measures to promote shared prosperity. Indeed, the very idea of bringing in a diverse and dynamic settings to the world of Model United Nations in Korea compelled us to institute our conference, GECMUN. We are continuing such unique yet distinct initiative in GECMUN II. We will continue to be committed in our mission of leading and providing a variety of settings including historical, futuristic, specialized, and fantasy committees to break away from the same, derivative, and trivial conferences in Korea that simply provide traditional committees of the United Nations. By going “beyond the United Nations” and presenting you unusual committees and topics, we will challenge you, the delegates, to approach problems and conflicts in an entirely different manner. At the end of the day, you would have grown tremendously as a leader, critical thinker, public speaker, and a team-player, and would have gained a life-long network of boon companions. We hope that you can join us for a weekend at Jeju. Sincerely, John Hong Secretary-General, Global Education City Model United Nations 2016 |

You are with us this time. You have this brilliant opportunity to initiate more exciting debates as well as emphasizing your values through various perspectives. This year, GECMUN starts off by opening up a new chapter for the world of Model United Nations. Deputy Secretary General: Sieun Lee
Deputy Secretary-General
Sieun Lee (Branksome Hall Asia) |
Dear GECMUN Delegates,
First and foremost, it is my distinct honor and privilege to officially invite you all to the second Global Education City Model United Nations (GECMUN). My name is Sieun Lee from Branksome Hall Asia, who will be serving as your Deputy Secretary-General. Branksome Hall Asia has a unique history regarding its MUN club. Our club comprised of members of varying levels attend a range of conferences. These conferences range from very small domestic conferences to very large international conferences such as Harvard MUN China. Through actively engaging in numerous conventions, our delegates are able to develop as global leaders and risk-takers. In the hope of receiving these inspirations from our own hometown, Global Education City, Branksome Hall Asia is now hand in hand with GECMUN II. Although newly established, GECMUN is now a representative Model United Nations in Jeju Island, if not all of South Korea. Our iconic crisis committees have breached the typical, intensive MUN style of South Korea and presented participants with everlasting memories alongside thought-provoking debates. The advent of such creative committees has redefined MUN from an academically demanding debate to a both socially and intellectually engaging conference. Building on that challenging spirit, GECMUN II is also well equipped to introduce even more advanced, groundbreaking committees. On that note, we challenge you to join us to approach disputable issues, network through our vision, and inspire the world. Be incandescent and enlighten GECMUN II with your passion. Please do not hesitate to contact me in case of any inquiries regarding the conference at [email protected]. Sincerely, Sieun Lee Deputy Secretary-General, Global Education City Model United Nations 2016 |

Dear Delegates,
I am pleased to see the continued surge of interest for Model United Nations within our very own GEC. Participating in MUN conferences provides opportunities for students to challenge themselves to think critically, collaborate effectively, and communicate their ideas both orally and in writing. These skills are invaluable to students as they seek to be competitive in university and beyond. According to Tony Wagner, author and Harvard lecturer, businesses list these skills as three of the most important "survival skills" for future business leaders. As you navigate the present and consider the future, I want to commend you for your efforts to find solutions for current and future challenges that the world faces. Sincerely, Mrs. Kristine Stamp-Jerabek, Academic Head of KISJ |

Dear Esteemed Guests, Advisors, Parents and Participants,
I have been teaching for six years in four different nations; Honduras, Japan, Bahrain and South Korea. I am an MUN fanatic and excited to see the MUN culture slowly, but surely spreading throughout the GEC. I am particularly excited in introduce the crisis style committee to delegates throughout Korea, and look forward to seeing GECMUN becoming the flagship conference for crisis committees. MUN provides students with imperative 21st century skills. These skills include, but are not limited to; public speaking, essay writing, negotiation techniques and the ability to compromise. I am excited to see these skills manifest themselves at GECMUN. This year, we are stepping up our MUN game. We have invited consultants from the United States to train our chairs and we are expanding our conference in both size and quality. We welcome you to join us at Jeju Island and experience the joy of MUN. Sincerely, Nickolas Harris (www.teacherharris.com) Head of Conference |
